Tachikaze (Japanese, roughly translates as "Sword Wind") is a male Peregrine Falcon - technically a tiercel - and he was hatched in Suffolk in 2001.

When he gets his full mature plumage he will have slate blue-grey upper surfaces with cream & grey undersides. At the moment he's a bit of a teenager with some of his baby feathers still remaining.

Clive thinks that he's the most tactically aware bird that he's ever flown. Like all Peregrines he is a stubby, compact powerhouse and is capable of very high speeds. He loves to fly to the attack very close to the ground, often using the crowd for cover. Clive knows that he's coming in because of the 'ching, ching, ching' of the bells but usually only has a split-second to react once he's shot into the ring.

Tachi really comes into his own on cool, windy days. His short wings mean that he is inherently unstable - like a modern fly-by-wire warplane -and so he's incredibly manouverable, we still haven't worked out how he does it!

Despite being an absolute demon in the air, on the glove he's a totally different bird - very friendly and always looking for human companionship.
